Our Story

S​​​​​​​keeter Juice® is an organic essential oil based product that helps scare those pesky bugs away and it has originated from a long history of passion for essential oils and their many benefits. The love of oils was ingrained in the founder, my mother, Gina Harrison, as a young child when she was caught selling cinnamon oil to her classmates. Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she was influenced by Native American culture and Spanish Healers. She became fascinated with the benefits of natural remedies and began experimenting with essential oils to help relieve various ailments. Her passion eventually led to the development of Etoile Oils, her collection of hand blended organic oils.

After moving to Florida, she noticed the natives and tourist alike battling with pesky mosquitoes. When I called her one morning complaining about the annoying abundance of bugs in the barn, she set forth in creating an all natural remedy that I could safely use around horses and other animals. A​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​fter several weeks of research and experimentation she formulated a recipe that she brought to the barn for me to try. We began spraying the horses and I noticed that it drove the mosquitoes away. Jokingly I looked at her and said, “Mom, you need to make some more of that Skeeter Juice®,” and the rest is history. 

Skeeter Juice® has had a long journey, from simple gardens and densely wooded hikes to children’s soccer matches and Florida swamps. It's even gone as far as seeing combat alongside our troops in active war zones overseas with great success. It is these great testimonies that made my mother decide that it was time to share this wonderful, all natural product with more than just her friends and family.

The Science behind blending Skeeter Juice®

When creating any aromatherapy treatment, you must start with a base oil. You need a foundation, a middle note(s) and a top note(s).

As you start the process, you have to use nature's process to blend the oils. Oils have to be added to the blend in a certain way. If you just throw the oils together without a foundation, middle note and top note the oils won't bind.

Gina learned aromatherapy oil blending when she was young growing up in New Mexico and through taking classes in aromatherapy. These oils have a medicinal property to them and cannot be used on just any one. You must be aware of pregnancy, diabetes, epilepsy, high blood pressure or children for example. These oils have a medicinal property to them and not all oils will blend together.

Blended oils cannot be stored in white plastic bottles. This will degrade the effectiveness of the oil over time. This is the reason why Skeeter Juice® comes in a dark glass bottle. These bottles are made in America and bought especially for our oils. You can only use a dark plastic bottle if it is lined to prevent the plastic from bleeding into the oils which costs more.

Think about is this way, any pill that you take from a pharmacy started as a plant based foundation and was further developed in the lab. When you hear people go “Its organic” or “Its essential oils” you have to ask do you know what you are doing with it. Just because it says organic doesn’t mean it is safe.

Directions for Use

Drip or spray a small amount on your hand and then apply to the rest of your body as applicable. To apply to face, drip or spray a small amount on hand first, then wipe face keeping away from eyes, nose and mouth openings. Wash hands thoroughly after application and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco products or the toilet.

Storage

Store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.

Precautions and Warnings

Skeeter Juice is not responsible for the misuse of this product. This product has not be evaluated by the FDA and is not intended to prevent disease or replace expert medical advice.

If you think you may have a reaction to any of the ingredients in Skeeter Juice, test on a small patch of skin first and wait 24 hours before applying the product to your body

Skeeter Juice may be harmful if swallowed. Do not ingest. Do not get Skeeter Juice in your eyes. Do no give to children under age 3 years (ask about Baby Skeeter Juice). Do not use if pregnant (ask about Mommy Skeeter Juice).

First Aid:

For eyes: Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye. Call your doctor immediately for treatment advice.

If swallowed: Call a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice. Have person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a doctor or poison control center. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If you suspect a reaction to this product, discontinue use, wash affected area thoroughly and call your local poison control center.
